How to Machine Embroider a Sweatshirt








With the holidays right around the corner I wanted to share how to embroider sweatshirts. These can be great as gifts, family themed photos, and just lounging around and staying warm.  I love Threadsy for my blank basic needs. They have great options to pick from in sweatshirts, hoodies, t-shirts, hats, and more all at wholesale prices. Another great feature is no minimum orders so I can order as little as one or more if need be. Threadsy offers top brands with trendy fits like Bella + Canvas. This particular one is one of my favorite sweatshirts to embroider. Not only is the style and fit just right it has a nice medium weight to it which makes it perfect for embroidery. Get the details below on how to embroider your own sweatshirt. 

Supplies:

 


Begin by marking out the placement of the embroidery. I like to start my design (depending on the size of the design) about 3"-4" down from the collar.  You will need to mark off the center as well. 


Flip the sweatshirt inside out. Cut a strip of CutAway Stabilizer that is large enough to cover the hoop and embroidery area. Use 505 spray to spray the stabilizer and place on the wrong side of the front of the sweatshirt. 


Hoop the front of the sweatshirt (with stabilizer) making sure the hoop center marks match the center marks of the sweatshirt. 

Fold over the rest of the sweatshirt around the hoop so only the front of the sweatshirt is in the hoop area. 


Position the embroidery design where the marks are on the touchscreen of your embroidery machine and embroider.


Remove the excess stabilizer from the back. I like to cut it about 1/2" away from the design. Now go make many for holiday gifts for yourself, family, and friends.
