DIY Reversible Tote Bag

With the lovely weather we've been getting down South, it got me inspired to sew a reversible tote bag for the Farmers Market. My son and I enjoy hitting up the Farmers Market most weekends. He loves to pick out fresh produce to cook and snack on. I have plenty of reusable totes but of course I don't think you can have too many. I love this vintage inspired cotton print from Stylish Fabric with the peaches (Peach state here). Yes, they have cotton fabric too! This is a large bag to fit plenty of things and can be customized with fabric for a weekend bag, a beach bag, and plenty of other options. You can even add pockets or snap closures as well. Supplies:

• 1 yd. Stylish Fabric Cotton Food Packaging Design 
• 1 yd. Stylish Fabric Checkered Woven Fabric 
• 1.5 yd. fusible fleece
• general cutting/sewing supplies
• Brother Sewing Machine

Cutting:

• 2 main pieces 15 x 21"
• 2 liner pieces 15 x 21"
• 4 fusible fleece 15 x 21"
• 2 straps 6 x 20"
• 2 fusible fleece 2 x 20"

* Use a gird ruler and cut 2" corners off all bag pieces.

Fuse all fusible fleece pieces to wrong side of exterior and liner pieces. 

Sew the straps:

• Fuse the fleece down the center of the fabric.
• Fold sides into center and press.
• Fold again in half, press, and clip into place. 
• Top stitch just along the edges of both sides.

Sew the tote:

Place right sides together and sew sides and bottom (1/2" seam allowance). Repeat for liner. 

Fold the bottom corners together and sew to create a squared bottom. 

Pin or clip the handles on both sides of the main exterior (RST). Baste stitch into place. I placed mine about 7" from the side seam and 5" in between the center.   

Place the main inside the liner so RST. 

Stitch all the way around with a 1/4" seam allowance leaving a 3.5" opening just 1" from the strap and the seam to pull right sides out. 

Pull right side out through the opening. 

Once flipped right sides out, press the edges nice and flat. Top stitch 1/8" all the way around the edge making sure to sew closed the opening. 

That's it! It's pretty easy and quick. Now add all the goodies and enjoy your day! In collaboration with Stylish Fabric.
