DIY Alter an oversized top

I really liked this vintage gingham shirt, but it was so big I was swimming in it. 
Try this simple DIY alteration tutorial and you can turn too big into the perfect fit. 

 Simply find a shirt that fits you. Flip the shirt inside out and pin along the edge of the fitted top.

It will look like this...

 Once pinned, sew right sides together.

Trim the excess off. If you want to shorten the hem then do that as well...



  1. Great simple tutorial...since dropping some weight I'm finding the need to do this with some of my favorite shirts and blouses! I never thought to use a shirt that fits well as the marker, I usually just guesstimate how much to take in...lol...sometimes I'm successful, sometimes not so much.

  4. Sometimes i dont have the patience to pin before sewing i just "guess-sew" but i see a difference when you pin before sewing..it's perfect and neat. Thanks for sharing.
