DIY cutout top from tank

Supplies: plain tank

I like the cut out trend and mixed with the bow top makes this the perfect summer crop top, even a great replacement for a swimming suit.

DIY:

Cut the tank in half.
Gather the middle of the top half and then sew the gathers in place.

Cut the bottom half to desired length and one of the side seams.

With right sides together sew the top to the bottom leaving a 2-3 inch gap below the gather for the cut out. Once you've sewn all the way around, sew the side seam up you previously cut.

With the extra fabric cut a little piece to go around the gathered top. You can also use ribbon. Hand sew it in place.  Try this in the back as well...

tip: for extra coverage add a bandeau. You can make the middle strap with a snap from fabric so you can wrap it around the bandeau…

  8. What if you wanted a cut out like that but keep the tank longer? Would you just get a longer tank?

  9. Super cute... I was sitting here reading your blog and was like that tank is really cute. And then, I realized it's because I'm wearing it! :)

To keep it longer, I am sure you could use a scrap piece of fabric for the "knot" and not really lose any length from the tank...
