Mens shirt refashion: peplum dress

Supplies: Mens Shirt

This was a tacky polyester mens shirt I got thrifting. I loved the brown/polkadot fabric and thought a peplum would be a nice twist to the mens shirt refashion.

I made my own pattern for this dress. You can use your favorite dress to draft patterns (just trace and cut using newspaper...).
Here is what everything became...
Sleeves: ruffled waist
cuffs: straps
main shirt: skirt and bodice
collar: back sleeves

  4. Is there any way you could make a pattern that I could print off? I have been looking for this dress pattern for months.

    1. Hi Neshad...I don't have a pattern to print...because it was made from a mens shirt I really have to make it up as I go (hence the cuffs as straps..etc.). You can really draft a pattern from a simple dress you like, then add a ruffled skirt around the waist...that is all a peplum dress really is....

Question;how did you sew the bodice? in the picture it looks like two pieces with a stitch across the chest? but I wasn't sure, I have part of a newspaper pattern cut but i'm worried to cut the shirt up without being sure:)

  28. just curious if the back of the dress has a zipper or if it's all one piece you slip into? i want to make a dress like this but with this type of material i didn't think it would stretch easy enough so to speak so that's why i was wondering what the back of yours looks like or how it's made.

  69. Another place that new t shirt designers often go wrong is in the leading, or "spacing between lines of text." Leading -- which is pronounced like the metal "lead" rather than like a "leader" taking people somewhere -- goes back to the days of the printing press, when a person would actually use small, thin pieces of lead to create vertical space between the lines of type.
