Great for making those tight tees wearable.
Supplies: Fringe trim (3 yards) I used double sided fringe. You can make your own fringe here since it is hard to find.
tshirt
Can be made casual or dressy depending on the shirt you use. The fringe is so pretty and looks lovely on!
DIY instructions:
Cut sleeves off and side seams open. Measure out fringe to bottom hem...pin.
Sew the fringe and shirt right sides together all the way around (front and back). The fringe i had was double sided. Usually it is sold with one side, so if you can't find it you can follow this tutorial here and make your own.
Top stitch the fringe seam leaving enough room for your arm.
I also did this with crochet trim here.
so cool ! what an rockin shirt

Where did you get your fringe? I can't figure out how to close up a side with ribbon, but I can't even find double sided fringe online! Help!
ReplyDeleteHi Athena, I know it was a great find. I'm trying to find a fabric shop that sells it....I will let u know.
DeleteIt's called chainette fringe. Hope this helps! :D
DeleteI too would like to make this unbelievably cute top, but have been unable to find double taped fringe... keep us updated! :)
ReplyDeleteI also have a top I purchased that uses the double taped fringe in the back - they took a simple tank pattern, opened the back and sewed one of the fringe edges to one side, then the other edge of the fringe to the other side. Across the top of the split is a stay ribbon, so the fringe drapes down nicely in the back while the shirt stays on. I know this a horrible explanation, but I wanted to share, because if anyone could make one, it would be you!
Hi...I will be on the look out for some. I found mine at a little shop, but it was a one time sort of thing. I will see if I can make it some how...if I can't find some. I have seen those shirt nikki Forever 21 has a lot and I noticed them because the fringe...ha.
DeleteI'll keep looking. In the mean time, try another trim like crochet/lace/etc..

Hi Laura,
DeleteAs always, love your blog and thank you reminding me to get my head out of the text books and be creative sometimes :)
I have been persistent in my search for the elusive double-sided fringe - both for this "have-to-do" project as well as another I have in mind. Still haven't found the real deal, but I did find this tutorial...

Google chainette fringe and it should be what your looking for.
DeleteWhere did you get double sided fringe?
ReplyDeleteWhere did you find the t-shirt ?
ReplyDeleteWow, It's too cool to be this simple o___o Thank you the tutorial, I linked it in a serie I'm writing for my blog (http://rock-n-roll-stops-the-traffic.blogspot.it/2012/04/diy-from-head-to-toe-8.html), hope you don't mind :)
ReplyDeleteNot sure if it helps but I found some double sided fringe at Walmart today. It was sort of hidden away. Walmart's stock does vary depending on where you are (I'm in Las Vegas) but you could always go by and check. I know its hard to find.
ReplyDeleteWould make for a cute cover up.
ReplyDeleteI found double sided fringe at joannes fabrics today it was on a large roll 17.00 for 3 yards so kind of pricey
ReplyDeleteawesome Jenna,
DeleteYou can get joann fabric coupons up to 50% off the whole cut. They usually have coupons at the front or you can ask the workers if they have extras and sign up for them to come through mail is what I do. Great way to save money there.
Hi where did you buy the tee shirt?
ReplyDeleteThe picture is awesome
How wide was the fringe you used?

ReplyDeleteHow wide is the fringe you used??
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration! I didn't have a top to use so i drafted a pattern and used the same jersey as the fringes. A very comfy, but stylish top!
ReplyDeleteIs this double sided fringe or regular fringe that you didn't take off the one side? In my experience fringe is sold double sided and one side is meant to come off once it's sewn on.
ReplyDeleteYes, I found fringe that was double sided. The one side that is meant to come off was trimmed as the top part. So it was different. I assume you can try and sew the normal fringe on but it seemed to come off a bit.
DeleteAmazon has it
