DIY Knit T-Shirt Dress

I'm loving the animal print trend right now and when I saw this leopard rayon knit from Stylish Fabric I couldn't wait to make something with it. This fabric has a soft drape to it and it's not see through! They also have many different colors and prints (rayon jersey). I use this a lot on my knit projects. I had a lot of ideas and this fabric could work for leggings, headbands, skirts, and maxi dresses but ultimately I wanted a t-shirt dress. Something I could wear for the warmer months coming up and pair with a jacket or even as beach dress for an upcoming vacation. I used a simple pattern that has dolman sleeve so it's quick and easy.  Get the details below and make your own...

Supplies:

• 2 yds Rayon Jersey Knit
• T-Shirt Dress pattern or use a large t-shirt and draft the pattern
• General Sewing Supplies
• Brother SE1900 Sewing Machine
• Brother Coverstitch CV3550

Cut out your pattern. I used the pattern above but you can easily draft this pattern with a large t-shirt and just don't make sleeves. Just be sure to make the sash tie.

 When I cut knits I typically use pattern weights and a rotary cutter. It's more accurate and much easier than pinning all the pieces.

  

Flip right sides together and all you do is sew the shoulder seams and side seams. Make sure to sandwich the sash ties between front and back side seams. When sewing with knits I either serge or use a slight zig zag stitch (2.5/2.0) with my sewing machine.

For the sleeve edges and bottom hem I was excited to try out my new Brother Coverstitch CV3550 machine. It really took the overall finish to a professional level. Now no worries if you don't have one follow my tips for the finishing knit edges.
